What the reader understands
Web links (with redirects followed and a Google Safe Browsing check), Wi-Fi networks (name and password to copy), vCard and MeCard contacts (to save), events (to add to your calendar), phone numbers, text messages, emails, GPS locations, SEPA bank transfers and plain text. It also reads Data Matrix, Aztec and Micro QR codes.

How do I read a QR code from a photo in my gallery?+
Upload the photo on this page with the photo button: the QR code is detected and its content is shown. On iPhone, the Photos app can often recognize a code too (long press on it, or use Live Text); on Android, Google Lens does it from Google Photos. This page works everywhere, with no app, and also checks the link before you open it.
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?+
Yes, and it is the easiest case: take a screenshot of the screen showing the code (an email, a PDF, a social media post), then upload it here. On a computer, you can also paste the image directly with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
How do I read a QR code I received in a message?+
Your camera cannot scan the screen of the phone that is displaying the code. Save the image you received (or take a screenshot of the conversation), then upload it here: the content of the code is shown, and for a payment link you see the real website before opening it.
How do I scan a QR code shown on a website without a second phone?+
Take a screenshot of the page (or of just the code area on a computer), then upload or paste it here. The reader shows the real destination of the link and checks it with Google Safe Browsing before you open it.
Is my image uploaded to a server?+
No. The image is decoded in your browser. Only the web address contained in the code, if it is a link, is sent to our server so we can follow its redirects and check it against the Google Safe Browsing list.
Why is no QR code found in my photo?+
The code is often too small, blurry, cropped or hit by a glare. Crop the photo around the code, or take it again closer and straight on. The whole code must be visible, with its light margin all around. A badly damaged code may stay unreadable.
Can a QR code found in public be dangerous?+
Yes. Fake QR codes get stuck on parking meters, EV chargers and posters to lead people to fake payment pages. Before opening a link, look at the name of the website shown. To pay for parking or a fine, use the official app or website rather than a sticker.
